Dr. Ian Potter has decades of experience in leadership roles with Federal and Provincial funding corporations. Dr. Potter served as the Vice President, Engineering at National Research Council (NRC) of Canada from 2011 to May 2018 where he was responsible for the strategic direction, operation and client key account management for the division, including portfolios in aerospace; construction; automotive and surface transportation; energy, mining and environment; ocean, coastal and river engineering. From April 2012 to May 2015, he was also NRC’s Vice President responsible for NRC’s Business Management Support Branch. Prior to NRC, Dr. Potter was the COO at Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF). During his 10 years at AITF and its predecessor, the Alberta Research Council (ARC), Dr. Potter held several leadership and management positions in energy, environment, greenhouse gas technology and human resources. Before joining ARC, Dr. Potter was a senior research engineer with C-FER Technologies of Edmonton. He was also an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Calgary and a marine engineering officer with Shell Tankers (U.K.).
