In 1989, Ian Murray formed IMC with an initial emphasis on special projects related work. Assessment and implementation of greenfield industrial projects and acquisitions were the focus. But over time, the work evolved into what IMC is known for today: out-of-the ordinary or special situation consulting.
For the first two decades, the consulting work was primarily related to the natural resource and manufacturing sectors. More recently, we evolved to become sector agnostic. During this same time period, the IMC team expanded in breadth and depth, now covering a wide range of sectors and skill sets.
In the 90s, our geographic scope was broad with offices in the US, Mexico and southeast Asia, along with considerable work in Latin America. During this time there was also a lot of work across Canada and the United States. At the turn of the century, IMC refocused its attention on Alberta, remaining that way until the onset of 2015’s “great Alberta recession.” Since then, we’ve expanded our primary focus into the rest of western and northern Canada.
Like many other longstanding businesses, the company has gone through name changes and the consolidation of subsidiary companies. Since 2008, the company has operated under the name Ian Murray & Company Ltd. (IMC). Regardless of the ways in which we change and improve over time, one standard never will: our foundation is built on a group of experts with unsurpassed levels of experience and specialized knowledge to help leaders overcome obstacles and enhance opportunities.
