Pete Sametz

Pete Sametz has more than 35 years of experience in the oil and gas, EPC and power industries working with large, intermediate and emerging companies, managing growth from startup to intermediate status. His career has been characterized by entrepreneurship in startup companies and the early adaption of technologies including horizontal wells (since 1987), “modular” SAGD oil sands projects, COGEN (2009), dilbit by rail (2010) and the operations integration with a refinery in 2006. In the last 6 years have been focused on change management – brought into companies as CEO to restructure and overhaul strategically, financially, and culturally. He is recognized as a leader in innovation and an advocate for environmental and social responsibility in the energy industry. Mr. Sametz graduated in engineering from Carleton University with high distinction and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD). He has been a director of four public companies, as well as a volunteer in the community and with industry organizations. He has been chairman of the In-Situ Oil Sands Alliance (IOSA), and governor of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP).
